Prizes

Section 13(g) of Architectural Practice Act 2009 states one of the function of the Board is "to take such measures as the Board considers appropriate to promote education in architecture, to assist students in architecture or to further knowledge of architecture among the public".

The Dean W Berry Prize in Architecture.

Whereas the Architectural Practice Board of South Australia provides an annual prize to commemorate the service to the community of Mr Dean W. Berry who was Chairman of the Board for 27 years, the following rules shall apply to each of South Australia's Schools of Architecture;

  1. The prize shall be known as "The Dean W. Berry Prize in Architecture".
  2. The prize shall be of the value of $500 or such other amount as the Board shall from time to time determine.
  3. The prize shall be awarded by the Board to the student nominated by the school who in the Master of Architecture course has in the year of the award, obtained the highest marks in the architectural practice subject.
  4. If the opinion of the Board or its nominated representative (s) is that no student is of sufficient merit, no award shall be made.
  5. The prize shall be presented at an appropriate function designated by The Board.
  6. These rules may be varied by the Board from time to time, but the title and general purpose of the prize shall not be changed.

The Travelling Prize in Architecture

 

Whereas the Architectural Practice Board of South Australia provides an annual prize in Architecture for the purposes of travel, the following rules shall apply;

  1. The prize shall be known as "The Architectural Practice Board of South Australia Travelling Prize in Architecture".
  2. The prize shall be of the value of $5,000 or such other amount as the Board shall from time to time determine.
  3. The prize shall be awarded by the Board to one student, selected by the Board's appointed panel, from candidates nominated by the schools with outstanding results in their final professional year of Architecture who in the opinion of the panel are most likely to make a significant contribution in the practice of Architecture.  No more than two students per school of architecture in South Australia shall be nominated.
  4. Nominated candidates shall submit a succinct supporting statement and travelling proposal (occupying no more than 5 A4 pages and text not less than 10 point).  Candidates may be subject to interview.
  5. Payment of the award shall be made after approval by the Board's Panel of the travel arrangements proposed by the recipient.
  6. The recipient must submit to the Board a short report and relevant comment on the travel undertaken, a copy of which will be transmitted to all Schools of Architecture in South Australia.
  7. The prize shall be presented at an appropriate function designated by the Board.
  8. From time to time these rules may be varied by the Board in consultation with the Schools of Architecture, but the title and general purpose of the prize shall not be changed.
